News Literacy Bootcamp
This full-day professional development experience from the News Literacy Project NLP provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of news literacy. Participants will learn about the many ways our information environment is changing and how to use this complexity to ignite student inquiry. The specific topics addressed will include: What news literacy is, and why we can’t afford not to teach it Why news literacy is an essential foundation for civics education How to use digital forensics and timely examples of misinformation — including memes, viral rumors and partisan disinformation — to ignite students’ interest and engagement in current events How to use the standards of quality journalism to empower students’ voices. Participants will also get an introduction to NLP’s innovative online e-learning platform, the Checkology® virtual classroom, along with no-cost licenses to use with students for the remainder of the school year, thanks to the support of the McCormick Foundation.
