Thriving Schools Improvement: Intentionally & Strategically Building on Past Successes & Challenges
This academy focuses on research-based understandings about effective and sustainable prosocial school improvement efforts. Prosocial schools support two foundationally important and coordinated processes: Instruction that promotes social, emotional, civic, and academic learning as well as systemic improvement efforts that are designed to support students - and adults - feeling and being safe, supported, and engaged. Before the Academy, school leaders and members of their leadership team will complete 3 hours of work through Canvas: 1- Review the Thriving Schools Guide and reflect on what they most appreciate about the Guide as well as what questions and/or criticism they have about the Guide. The Thriving Schools Guide Cohen, Brown, & Ward-Seidel, 2021 represents a model that recognizes and synthesizes research and best practices from a number of overlapping prosocial initiatives: SEL, school climate, civics education, character education, restorative practices, appreciating diversity, and promoting equity as well as sustainable school improvement efforts that are aligned with implication science. 2- Complete the free Readiness Assessment Tool. This short 20 question Readiness Assessment provides principals and members of their leadership team with information about how intentional, strategic, and fundamentally collaborative school leaders are. 3- Completing a Program Audit and a Data Audit to identify current pro-social initiatives at the school.
