Facing History and Ourselves supports deep learning to fulfill the most central goal of American public education: preparing students for life in a democracy. This workshop will support teachers who are working to develop a Middle School Civics course. Our approach to civics is both holistic and integrated. Participants will explore resources and strategies to promote and strengthen students’ sense of belonging and voice in a democratic classroom. Educators will also receive resources to support students in making the connections between their studies, history and its legacies, human behavior, and the moral choices they face in their own lives. After the workshop, participants will receive access to Facing History resources, tools and support to develop a Civics course.
