This course builds upon the content of the CIVICS Silver Badge I- CCID course. In this course, participants will further delve into how to create a classroom climate in which there are equitable opportunities for ALL students to engage in dialogue about essential questions across the curriculum. Participants will use course tools to engage student voices to reflect on the practice of current and controversial issue discussions to co-create learning targets for student growth.
Participants engage in an instructional coaching cycle over 6 weeks, using Free For Teachers Canvas, to create, edit, implement and reflect on a lesson plan using a third strategy for discussion in the course. This is the third in a series of three courses on the use of current and controversial issue discussions in the classroom. Participants who complete this course all and earn their gold badge can apply for 1 graduate credit through the University of St. Francis USF for an additional fee and by completing a culminating assignment provided by USF.
