Course # 923-20

The Great Debates: Learn to Discern with Media Literacy during the Presidential Elections
Join us IllinoisCivics.org and the Museum of Broadcast Communications as we share the museum's online resources for teachers and students to explore different aspects of media coverage of presidential candidates, debates, and elections. The museum’s new online materials cover historical debates and candidates as well as provide guidance for how to help students navigate the interplay of media and candidates in this election cycle. By providing historical framework to students, it helps to depolarize the discussion when it turns to today’s candidates and elections. This focus on media literacy helps students learn to be less susceptible to misinformation. By creating a more informed young population, we can help support their civic engagement, well beyond voting. Participants will earn 2 PD credits for participating/viewing the webinar and completing an online application activity.
