Illinois Democracy Schools Annual Convening: How Shall We Live Together? Promoting Civility and Civic Engagement Across the School System

The 2024 Annual Illinois Democracy Schools Convening will engage stakeholders across school systems to address the essential question, "How shall we live together?" After an opening plenary session, participants will be able to choose three breakout sessions that focus on topics such as the 2024 Elections, Using AI to Promote Educational Equity, Combating Online Hate, Facilitating Classroom Discussions, Participatory Budgeting, Art as Civic Action, Rethinking Literacy as Empathy and Action, News Literacy, Native American History and more!

Presenters include Shawn McCusker, Dr. Shawn P. Healy, Dr. Steven Schwinn, Kristin Ziemke, the News Literacy Project, Facing History and Ourselves, Constitutional Democracy Project, Chicago History Museum, Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Retro Report, Museum of Tolerance, and the American Bar Association Division for Public Education.

 

A light breakfast and lunch are included in the registration. Participants will be sent a Google form prior to the event to choose breakout sessions.
